Facebook in the News
Facebook is always good for some news snippets and the latest news headlines are enough to make you howl with laughter. Apparently, 150,000 people accepted an invitation to a Face book house party after a schoolgirl in Australia posted the details to her facebook profile.
According to the North Shore Times,
POLICE have warned any of the 150,000 people who accepted an invitation to a Chatswood house party not to attend.
Chatswood Police Crime Prevention officer Matt Jewell said the party ad had been cancelled and anyone heading to the area to cause trouble would be dealt with.
“Police will be rostered to patrol the area to ensure there are no problems,” he said.
Thousands of people accepted invitations to attend the 16th birthday party on March 26 after the schoolgirl, Jess, posted an invitation to her Facebook profile.
Another interesting snippet about facebook is the fact that they are moving into the "local deals business" apparently attempting to muscle in to the Groupon space.
According to computer world,
The social network first announced Facebook Deals last November. It was a feature that enabled local businesses to offer users deals when they go to their Facebook page. Today, Facebook upped the ante.
"We're working to make it easier to find fun things to do with your friends and connect with local businesses," Facebook wrote today on its Wall. "We're testing a new Deals feature that brings you offers from nearby businesses, which you can share with your friends."
The new feature is currently only available for users in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, San Diego and San Francisco.
Should be interesting to see who comes out on top. As Groupon are relatively new - they could be in trouble.
